Blaine: Kanto Gym leader

Blaine is the seventh Gym leader in Kanto. Beating this leader earns the Volcano Badge. The team has 4 Pokémon at level 70 to 100.

How to beat Blaine

  • Types that hit the team hard: Rock hits 4 of 4, Ground hits 4 of 4, Water hits 4 of 4 for double damage or more.
  • Types that take the least from its moves: out of 16 damaging moves on the team: Rock (resists 16, none hit for double); Water (resists 11, none hit for double); Fire (resists 11, none hit for double).

Blaine's levels never change, so the fight is the same for every player. If it is too hard, train up, change your moves to hit the types above, or swap a better matchup into the lead slot. Heal your team before you start. See status conditions for what poison, burn and sleep do mid-fight.

Before you go

  • Kanto is where every trainer starts. If you are somewhere else, buy a ticket at the Airport ($1,000,000).
  • You can fight any of the eight Kanto leaders first. The badge is only given on your first win against Blaine.
