Shiny and Colored Pokemon
Dusk Reborn has Shiny Pokémon plus eight cosmetic Colored variants. Here is what they are and how to get one.
Shiny Pokémon
Shiny is the only variant with a real wild-encounter chance: roughly 1 in 200 on a normal wild encounter. You can also work toward one directly:
- Sabrina's Shiny Search: pay to take on a task for one species, then hand in 20 of that species at level 6 or higher for a guaranteed Shiny of it.
- A Shiny Treasure Box guarantees a Shiny of a random Pokémon.
The eight Colored variants
Shadow, Demon, Haunted, Golden, Frost, Glitter, Eternal and Baby are palette swaps that come from the Colored Treasure Box, not the wild. They have the same stats, types, abilities and moves as the normal Pokémon, so it is a different color, not a different Pokémon. Two things are not identical: Colored Pokémon cannot Mega Evolve, and their evolution lines can have gaps (a Shiny or Colored Eevee currently has no evolution). See how evolution works.
Rough odds inside a Colored Box: Shadow, Demon and Haunted about 15% each, Golden, Frost and Glitter about 12% each, Eternal about 11% and Baby about 8 to 9%. Every Pokédex entry shows the variants that exist, for example Mewtwo.
Getting Treasure Boxes
The level in "every 15 levels" and "every 50 levels" is your Play Level, not a Pokémon level and not your Trainer Level. Play Level rises as you spend active time in the game, and you can see it as Play Lv in your trainer panel (click your name at the top of the game). Each Play Level pays coins and cash, and:
- every 15th Play Level (15, 30, 45 and so on) also gives a Shiny Treasure Box;
- every 50th Play Level (50, 100 and so on) also gives a Colored Treasure Box.
Other sources are the daily login reward, which gives a Treasure Box on every 30th streak day, and the referral ticket shop, which trades tickets for boxes. Which variant a box gives is random.
Seasonal events can add extra sources, but they are not the only way to get one. See daily rewards and coins and the four kinds of level.
