Pokemon Dusk RebornWiki New here? How to play

Caterpie's Bug Hunt Contest

The Bug Hunt is a scoring contest like the Fishing Contest. Read one warning first: every new catch replaces your old score, even when the new one is worse.

Last checked: 5 November 2026. Checked against the game code and screens on 5 November 2026. Maintained by the Pokémon Dusk Reborn team. Spotted a mistake? Tell us in #bugs-and-errors on Discord.

How to enter

  1. Open the Games Corner and choose Caterpie's Bug Hunt.
  2. Under Select Rod, tick one of Old Net, Good Net or Super Net. The label says "Rod" but the choice is a net.
  3. Press Catch A Bug. The game picks a Bug or Poison Pokémon, scores it and submits the score to today's contest.

What you need

One net in your Backpack. Old Net, Good Net and Super Net are sold at Mart Co. and in the Dark Alley. If you pick a net you do not own, the game says "You can't catch with a Old Net if you don't have one!" and nothing happens. There is no coin or energy cost per catch.

How the score is made

Each catch rolls a random Bug or Poison type Pokémon. Its HP, Attack, Defense and Speed are added up and multiplied by 12, the game picks a random score between a fifth and the whole of that figure, and then adds a flat bonus for your net. The score is shown as a size in metres and a worth in points.

  • A Pokémon with higher stats can score higher, but the roll is random, so a strong one can still give a low score.
  • The net bonus is small for an Old Net, much larger for a Good Net and largest for a Super Net, so a better net lifts every catch.

Every catch replaces your last score

The contest keeps one score per player, and a new catch overwrites it whether it is higher or lower. Your personal best is saved separately, but the daily ranking uses the latest catch. Worked example: you catch a 12.4 m bug early in the day and it puts you in the top three. Casting again and getting a 6.1 m bug replaces the 12.4 m score and can knock you out. If you are happy with your score, stop casting.

Prizes

PlaceCoinsCash
1st1,250$3,000,000
2nd500$2,000,000
3rd250$1,000,000

The top three catches at the end of each day are paid after the daily reset, so check back the next day.

Torn nets

Every catch has a small chance to tear your net. The torn net is removed, the catch counts for nothing and the game says "the catching net tore". Keep a spare if you plan to catch several times.
