Every Trainer eventually runs into a status condition mid-battle -- a paralyzed lead, a burned attacker, a Pokemon that will not wake up. This guide covers all five conditions currently in the battle engine: what each one does, which moves cause it, which types shrug it off, and which items cure it.

The five status conditions

https://pkmnreborn.com/img/types/psn.png Poison
Deals damage every turn that grows the longer it lasts (starts at 1/16 of max HP, then 2/16, 3/16, and so on).

https://pkmnreborn.com/img/types/brn.png Burn
Deals 1/16 max HP damage every turn and cuts the burned Pokemon's Attack in half for as long as it lasts.

https://pkmnreborn.com/img/types/par.png Paralysis
Cuts Speed in half, and gives a 25% chance each turn that the paralyzed Pokemon is fully unable to move at all.

https://pkmnreborn.com/img/types/slp.png Sleep
The Pokemon cannot move for a random 1-3 turns, then wakes up on its own.

https://pkmnreborn.com/img/types/frz.png Freeze
The Pokemon cannot move at all until it thaws -- a 20% chance every turn, or an automatic thaw if it uses Flame Wheel, Flare Blitz, Sacred Fire, or Scald.

Only one of these can affect a Pokemon at a time -- a Pokemon that is already burned cannot also be poisoned or put to sleep until the first condition is cured or wears off.

Moves that cause each condition

Poison: Toxic (always poisons), Sludge, Sludge Bomb, Sludge Wave.

Burn: Will-O-Wisp (always burns), Inferno (always burns), Ember, Fire Punch, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Blaze Kick, Fire Fang, Flame Wheel, Flare Blitz, Sacred Fire, Scald, Steam Eruption, Lava Plume, Searing Shot, Blue Flare, Heat Wave, Ice Burn.

Paralysis: Thunder Wave (always paralyzes), Stun Spore (always paralyzes), Glare (always paralyzes), Nuzzle (always paralyzes), Zap Cannon (always paralyzes), Body Slam, Spark, Thunder Fang, Thunderbolt, Thunderpunch, Thundershock, Discharge, DragonBreath, Bolt Strike, Force Palm, Volt Tackle, Thunder, Bounce, Freeze Shock, Lick.

Sleep: Hypnosis, Lovely Kiss, Sing, Sleep Powder, Spore, Grass Whistle, Dark Void, Relic Song.

Freeze: Ice Beam, Ice Punch, Ice Fang, Blizzard, Powder Snow, Freeze Dry.

Which types are immune

  • Steel and Poison types cannot be poisoned.
  • Fire types cannot be burned.
  • Electric types cannot be paralyzed.
  • Ice types cannot be frozen.
  • Grass types are immune to Sleep Powder, Spore, and Stun Spore specifically (powder moves) -- Hypnosis, Sing, and Thunder Wave still work on them normally.

There is no type that blocks Sleep in general -- only the three powder moves above.

Items that cure each condition

https://pkmnreborn.com/items/antidote.png Antidote cures Poison.
https://pkmnreborn.com/items/pechaberry.png Pecha Berry also cures Poison.
https://pkmnreborn.com/img/berrys/Rawst.png Rawst Berry cures Burn.
https://pkmnreborn.com/img/berrys/Cheri.png Cheri Berry cures Paralysis.
https://pkmnreborn.com/img/berrys/Chesto.png Chesto Berry cures Sleep.
https://pkmnreborn.com/img/berrys/Aspear.png Aspear Berry cures Freeze.
https://pkmnreborn.com/img/berrys/Lum.png Lum Berry cures any of the five.

Use one from your Backpack during battle -- select the item and it clears the active status right away.

Guide reflects the battle engine as of the Battle Status Conditions update, October 2026.
